Jyotishka

Empowering Women through Paramedical Training

Project Jyotishka is a women’s skill development initiative aimed at training 500 young, unemployed women (aged 18-35 years) from Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Scheduled Tribe (ST) fisher families in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. These women belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and face limited job opportunities due to a lack of marketable skills and education.

This project provides six months of paramedical training in collaboration with Jyotishka International Institute (JYOII), a government-affiliated educational institution under AGMSWT. Graduates will be placed in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and home healthcare services, ensuring 100% employment opportunities.

We seek funding support of INR 43,75,000 to implement Project Jyotishka, which will equip 500 women with skills, provide stipends, facilitate job placements, and promote economic independence.

Problem Statement

Fishing communities in Purba Medinipur suffer from:

  • Extreme financial instability, with families dependent on low-paying seasonal labor.
  • Lack of education and vocational training, limiting job opportunities for young women.
  • Gender disparities in employment, leaving women financially dependent on male family members.
  • Poor healthcare infrastructure, requiring trained paramedics to strengthen rural healthcare services.

Without intervention, these women remain trapped in poverty, with no access to professional careers or financial independence.

Objectives

  • Train 500 women (aged 18-35) in paramedical skills through JYOII.
  • Ensure 100% job placement in hospitals, clinics, and home healthcare services.
  • Enable financial independence for BPL women in fisher communities.
  • Strengthen healthcare infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas.
  • Promote gender equity by integrating women into the healthcare workforce.
