Save the Girl Child (PC&PNDT)
The Save the Girl Child (PC&PNDT) project, implemented with the support of the National Health Mission (NHM), successfully addressed the critical issue of declining female child sex ratios in Kolkata. Through awareness campaigns, community sensitization, and monitoring of USG clinics, the project contributed to promoting gender equity and ensuring a brighter future for the girl child.
Location - Ward Nos. 71-144 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and college students in this area during 2015-16 & 2016-17.
Activities
Awareness Campaigns
- Educated the general population, including pregnant mothers, about the declining female child sex ratio and its long-term societal impacts.
- Conducted sensitization programs to highlight the adverse effects of a skewed sex ratio, such as gender imbalance and social instability.
College Student Engagement
- Raised awareness among college students about the declining trend of the female child sex ratio in India since 1951, emphasizing the need for gender equality.
Monitoring USG Clinics
- Conducted visits to USG clinics to prevent the malpractice of sex determination and ensure compliance with the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
Community Sensitization
- Organized sensitization drives in crowded areas to engage the general public in discussions about the importance of saving the girl child and promoting gender equity.
